Injectables Q & A

What are injectables?

Injectables consist of a broad category of natural, bio-identical, or bio-compatible molecules delivered within the skin to help improve its youthful appearance and health. They can both promote skin health by stimulating new stem cells, collagen, and elastin growth, as well as helping improve its aesthetic appearance.

Are there different types of injectables?

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators, such as Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, and Daxxify®, improve fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily blocking the nerve signals to the tiny facial muscles responsible for wrinkle-forming contractions. Once the muscles are temporarily paralyzed, lines, creases, and folds smooth out, revealing a more youthful, relaxed facial expression. At California Dermatology and Mohs Surgery Specialists, we can create impressive effects on the face and neck without requiring invasive surgery.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are natural, bio-identical, and bio-stimulatory gel-like compounds often considered liquid miracle workers to help decrease the lines, creases, and folds that form with age.

Non-surgical and non-invasive dermal fillers help combat volume loss and restore a vibrant and youthful appearance. Whether you’re looking to painlessly augment the lips, strategically correct tear troughs, or expediently improve definition in the jawline, dermal fillers deliver excellent results with minimal downtime, so you can get back to your active and busy lifestyle right away.

Many dermal fillers contain a natural form of hyaluronic acid, which binds to water, adding moisture to the skin from within. They can also help stimulate our skin’s natural collagen production, adding to their efficacy when used over time.

Kybella

Diet and exercise are typically the best way to look and feel exactly how you want. Sometimes, even the most diligent healthy habits can fail to eliminate troublesome pockets of extra fat that just won’t go away. Sometimes these trouble areas show up in the neck and chin, but not everyone wants to undergo liposuction or another surgical procedure to remove them.

Using a compound known as deoxycholic acid, Kybella breaks down fat cells in the body, destroying them and allowing the body to metabolize and eliminate them for good. These fat cells don’t return, meaning Kybella’s results are long-lasting.

PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a unique product derived from your own blood that contains a broad spectrum of ultra-highly concentrated, potent growth factors and biostimulatory molecules that help stimulate your stem cells to rebuild collagen and elastin, grow new hair, heal wounds, restore fat pad form and function, and improve recovery after laser resurfacing and surgical procedures.

What can I expect from treatment with injectables?

Injectables take only a few minutes to perform. Dr. Soleymani may apply a topical numbing cream to maintain your comfort during your procedure, but many injectables already contain anesthetics like lidocaine to prevent pain. After a comprehensive cosmetic consultation, Dr. Soleymani maps out your treatment areas and determines the number of units you need.

Once he injects the neuromodulator or filler, your skin may appear slightly bruised or swollen. These effects typically subside within a few hours or days.

How long do injectables last?

Most neuromodulators last 3-4 months, though Daxxify has been shown to maintain results for 6-9 months. Fillers typically last around 6-18 months. Once your medication wears off, you can return to California Dermatology and Mohs Surgery Specialists for maintenance treatments.
